Adelphi University Announces its March 2009 Performing Arts Events

Adelphi University is pleased to offer an array of prestige concerts, mainstage productions, and dance performances in March featuring world-renowned musicians, guest artists, faculty, and students in its 500-seat acoustically state-of-the-art concert hall and convertible dance theatre in the new Performing Arts Center (AU PAC), 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. Below are all the ticketed events offered in March.
The Jupiter String Quartet
Thursday, March 5, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. and
Monday, April 20, 2009, at 7:30 p.m.
Concert Hall
On March 5, the Quartet will present Dimitri Shostakovich’s
Quartet No. 7 in F sharp minor and Quartet No. 4 in D major, Sofia Gubaidulina’s
Quartet No. 2, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s
Quartet in E minor, Op. 59, No. 2. In their final appearance of the season, the Quartet will perform related masterpieces which express emotional depth and spiritual vision, including Felix Mendelssohn’s
Quartet in A minor, Op. 13, Thomas Adès’
Arcadiana, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s
Quartet in A minor, Op. 132.

Concert Hall
Transcultural Music For Solo Piano: Music of Chen Yi, Toru Takemitsu, Christopher Adler, Adelphi Assistant Professor and composer Sidney M. Boquiren, and celebrated composer György Ligeti. Pianist Eric Huebner has drawn worldwide acclaim for his performances of new and traditional music since his debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at age 17. A graduate of the Juilliard School, he has worked with a number of the world’s leading conductors and has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Brooklyn Philharmonic orchestras, among others.

Adelphi University's Associate Professor and Dance Department Chair Frank Augustyn is proud to present Dance Adelphi Spring 2009 with original works by renowned choreographer Alexandre Proia and Adelphi Assistant Professor Trebien Pollard in an exciting production featuring Adelphi dance students.
Musical Theatre in Concert
Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 8:00 p.m.
Concert Hall
Songs, ensembles, and scenes from classic and contemporary musicals, directed by Adelphi University Distinguished Faculty Member Michael Hume, performed by Adelphi students.
