Adelphi University Institute for Parenting Presents "Raising a Thinking Child" Program
---
Garden City, NY
February 5, 2009

---
Adelphi University’s Institute for Parenting presents an eight-week program, "Raising a Thinking Child," for parents of children ages three to five, on Wednesdays beginning on March 4, 2009, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Adelphi University, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. The goal of the program is to teach parents and their young child a new and more effective way of communicating with one another.

The program is designed to teach parents how to help their child identify and think through problem situations and everyday conflicts, find solutions that work, get along better with others, cope with frustration and anger, care about and understand their own as well as others’ feelings, realize that there is more than one way to solve a problem, and learn essential language skills in a fun-filled way. The program involves exercises and communication techniques to help parents think about their own feelings, become sensitive to those of their child's, find out their child's view of the problem, and find ways to engage their child in the process. During the program, each child will have a class of their own, in which games, stories, puppets, and role playing are used to make learning enjoyable.

Registration and pre-interviews will be held until February 27. To register, call Amy Heinowitz, program director, at 516.877.3016. For more information, visit the Institute for Parenting web site.
