Garden City, NY
February 24, 2009
Adelphi University is pleased to welcome internationally known psychosexual therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer, now 80, who will discuss and sign her newest co-authored book, Dr. Ruth’s Top Ten Secrets For Great Sex: How to Enjoy it, Share it, and Love it Each and Every Time (published by Jossey-Bass, a Wiley imprint, February 2009), on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the new Performing Arts Center, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. Dr. Ruth, who taught in Adelph's Human Sexuality Program from 1979 to 1980, helped pioneer the field of media psychology with her radio program, Sexually Speaking, and went on to become a cultural icon offering advice on sex. The ticketed event, part of the University’s Women’s Recognition Month celebrations, is sponsored by Adelphi’s Student Activities Board. The public is invited to attend, however, all attendees must be 18 years or older. A Q&A session and book signing will follow the lecture. Books will be available for purchase prior to and after the presentation.
In her latest book, Dr. Ruth prescribes a remedy to help couples revive their sex lives. Drawing wisdom from her entire life’s work, she provides a short, useful program for achieving more satisfying sexual intimacy, including knowing yourself and your partner, remembering the romance, and preparing for the changes that lie ahead, among other key topics.
Dr. Ruth has been a national celebrity and one of the most visible sex therapist for more than 30 years. Her wit, wisdom, and humor have been showcased through radio, television, and 34 books. "A cross between Henry Kissinger and Minnie Mouse", according to the Wall Street Journal, Dr. Ruth has taught at Adelphi, Yale, Princeton, and New York University, as well as appeared frequently on national television shows like TODAY, Good Morning America, and many radio programs. She has received numerous awards, including "Mother of the Year", honorary degrees from various colleges, and institutional prizes for her work in psychology and human sexuality. Dr. Ruth has two children, four grandchildren, and lives in New York City.
