Adelphi University Accounting Students to Compete in the
First Annual Long Island Accounting Challenge
Garden City, NY
March 20, 2009

Adelphi University accounting students will compete in the first annual Long Island Accounting Challenge sponsored by CPA firm Margolin, Winer & Evens, LLP (MWE) on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Hillwood Commons Lecture Hall on the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University, 720 Northern Boulevard, Brookville, NY. The quiz show style event hosted by Cablevision’s News 12 Long Island’s weekend anchor and senior correspondent Drew Scott, is free and open to the public. Students, faculty, staff, and friends are encouraged to attend to cheer on their teams.
Four teams of four from Adelphi University, C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, SUNY at Old Westbury, and Hofstra University will be presented with challenging accounting questions in the categories of ethics, tax, auditing, and financial accounting. Adelphi students John Amico ’09, Stephen Fregosi ’09, Nitin Chatriniyom ’09, Natalie Venezia ’09, and Matthew Messina ’09 (alternate) will represent the University.
The winning school will receive a commemorative award and each team member will win a new Amazon Kindle2 e-book.
According to MWE Managing Partner Teddy Selinger, “We are particularly excited about holding this event during a period of unprecedented economic uncertainty. Through this challenge, we hope to place the spotlight on the accounting profession and the importance of following sound accounting and economic principles the principles we live by and why CPAs are widely held as the most trusted advisors. And, of course, we love a good competition involving bright young people and see this challenge as a healthy, positive venue to showcase some of Long Island’s best students.”
For MWE, the challenge also serves as an excellent recruitment tool for a profession that continues to struggle in recruiting new professionals. While government job reports record the job losses nationwide as massive layoffs continue, accountants at all levels are in high demand.
