Author Patricia Volonakis-Davis to Speak About Her New Memoir at Adelphi University on May 4, 2009

Adelphi University is pleased to welcome author Patricia Volonakis-Davis, on Monday, May 4, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. in Adelphi’s Blodgett Hall 209, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. Ms. Volonakis-Davis will discuss her book, Harlot’s Sauce: A Memoir of Food, Family, Love, Loss, and Greece, which was a finalist in the Multi-Cultural Non-fiction category in the National Best Books Award of 2008, sponsored by USA Book News. This event, which is free and open to the public, is co-sponsored and supported by Adelphi’s Department of History, Gender Studies Program, and Levermore Global Scholars Program.

This memoir details Ms. Volonakis-Davis’ observations of Greek and Italian-American culture as well as culture and gender issues. She left the United States for Greece with her young son and husband in order to salvage their marriage. This memoir follows her through seven years in Athens, Greece and her discovery that even though her marriage dissolved, she could still thrive. Ms. Volonakis-Davis also discusses her many other successes, including pioneering a business in Greece, publishing in the United States, and founding Harlots’ Sauce Radio (a unique and popular e-magazine), and podcasting “Where Something Delicious is Always Cooking.” She currently resides in Northern California.
