Adelphi University Gives Thanks with First Annual Alumni and Employer Appreciation Breakfast
Garden City, NY
June 12, 2009

On Tuesday, May 12, 2009, Adelphi University hosted an inaugural appreciation breakfast to be held annually for alumni and employers who equip Adelphi students with necessary hands-on experience in their areas of interest. Nearly 20 alumni and employers attended the breakfast as representatives from numerous organizations that continue to immerse themselves in University involvement through job recruitment, internships, workshops, and job fair participation.
“This is an economically turbulent year, and these organizations continue to support our students and alumni,” said Thomas J. Ward, Jr. ’93, director of the Center for Career Development at Adelphi. “We tip our caps to you and express our sincere gratitude.”
Mr. Ward cited the importance of bringing companies onto the campus in order to “bridge the working world into the classroom.” He also introduced a number of career development programs being implemented by the University to increase employment opportunities and resources available to students: Mock Interview Night, Internships on the Road (mini road trips to various New York City enterprises), a new online resume software program, and access to the job-search site
PantherZone.
The event served not only to show Adelphi’s appreciation for the continued involvement of alumni and outside organizations, but also addressed areas where the University can grow to further enhance employment opportunities for its students. A campus tour concluded the morning’s activities, as past graduates and recruiters were able to see how the University has transformed recently, thanks largely to the support of alumni and representatives such as themselves.
