Adelphi University welcomes back the Jupiter String Quartet for its second season as Adelphi’s Ensemble-in-Residence. The group will perform its first of three programs on Friday, October 2, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. in the 500-seat acoustically state-of-the-art concert hall at the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (AU PAC), 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY.

Hailed as "one of the strongest young string quartets in the country" by the New York Sun, the Jupiter String Quartet is comprised of violinists Nelson Lee and Meg Freivogel, violist Liz Freivogel, and cellist Daniel McDonough. Their program includes Franz Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in F minor, Op. 20, No. 5, Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 127, and the hauntingly evocative music of Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov’s Yiddishbbuk.  A post-concert discussion will follow the performance.

The quartet has received a number of honors, including first prize in the Banff International String Quartet Competition, grand prize in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, Chamber Music America’s Cleveland Quartet Award, and membership in the Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society Two, among many other notable distinctions. They have toured the United States, Canada, Europe, Mexico, and South America, and have graced the stages of Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and the Library of Congress, as well as numerous other venues at home and abroad. Their most recent accomplishment was receiving an Avery Fisher Career Grant.

Reserved tickets for the event will be available for $20 (regular) and $15 (senior citizens). To learn more about the AU PAC and view the season schedule, please visit http://aupac.adelphi.edu/ or call the AU PAC Box Office at (516) 877-4000.
