New Emergency Management Graduate Certificate Offered at Adelphi University for Fall 2004
New Program Meets Vital Need in New York Area

Garden City, NY
June 24, 2004

Recent events and investigations have refocused our attention on the importance of preparation and planning efforts, as well as the urgent need for trained personnel who can respond to, and lead others during, emergency situations. To meet this critical need, Adelphi University is now offering an interdisciplinary graduate certificate in Emergency Management tapping the resources in the University's Schools of Business, Nursing, Social Work, and the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies as well as the College of Arts of Sciences.
Adelphi University will offer six classes towards this graduate certificate that is especially important for professionals in business, insurance, health care, travel and tourism, education, and public service. The 18-credit program was developed in consultation with Nassau County Commissioner of Emergency Management and former Deputy Commissioner of New York City's Office of Emergency Management under Mayor Giuliani, Richard Rotanz. In addition to Commissioner Rotanz, courses will be taught by leading professionals.
"Adelphi has a long history and a solid foundation of meeting the needs of the community. My partnership to develop and implement this graduate certificate parallels my own commitment in educating and protecting our region," says Rotanz.
Topics to be covered in the program include: Concepts of Emergency Management; Planning and Coordination; Health Management in Times of Disaster; Business Continuity Planning; Emergency Management Law; and Leadership in Emergency Management.
