South Avenue Construction Detour Update

Announcement, News

Dear Members of the Adelphi Community,

Steady progress has been made on the Nexus building and Welcome Center including foundation site work and steel framing. The footprint of the building, along with the interior “bones”, now give us a full sense of the promise of this new and important facility.

At the end of July, we anticipate the arrival and installation of the parking garage ceiling materials. The support beams for this phase of the project are pre-cast and are up to 80 feet long. This phase of the construction will unfortunately require the weekday closure of South Avenue between Brompton Road on the west end to Cherry Valley on the east end, from July 21, 2014 to August 28, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to accommodate the multiple deliveries of essential precast construction components. The sidewalks will remain open; however, while trucks are entering the site, free flowing pedestrian traffic may be interrupted. At no time will any section of South Avenue be closed to emergency response vehicles.

During these hours, vehicles will need to enter and exit the campus front entrances on Cambridge Avenue.  See the map for the detour routes.

We have coordinated with various Village offices to facilitate this aspect of the work in the safest and most expeditious manner and regret the inconvenience it may pose.

Thank you in advance for your understanding,

Gene Palma
Assistant Vice President for Public Safety and Transportation
