Volleyball Earns NCAA Division II Tournament Bid for Third Consecutive Year
The Adelphi University volleyball team earned the fourth seed in the East Region from the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Committee. This is the third straight year the Panthers have been selected among the 64 teams that will participate in the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship.

Athletics Fundraisers Go the Extra Mile
Panthers and friends are putting their pawss to the pavement in support of community causes.
Adelphi's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsored the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Miles for Myles Walk on Friday, November 6, 2009 on the indoor recreational jogging track in the Center for Recreation and Sports. More than 100 participants walked in honor of NCAA President and pancreatic cancer victim Myles Brand. Proceeds from the event exceeded $300 and will go to the Myles Brand Chair in Cancer Research at Indiana University School of Medicine, the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, and Coaches vs. Cancer.
On Sunday, December 13, 2009, the Adelphi University cross country and track and field program will host a 5K run highlighting the Garden City campus's best features. Proceeds will go towards the track team's trip to the Disney Relays in Orlando, Florida, in March. Volunteers from the United States Marines Toys for Tots program will also be collecting new, unwrapped toys at the event to be distributed among the community's needy children. Participants can lace up their running shoes for this scenic campus tour while taking advantage of the opportunity to support their peers and neighbors.

Thanks to Men’s Lacrosse Team, Thousand of Turkeys Go to Those in Need
The day before Thanksgiving, members of the Adelphi men’s lacrosse team partnered with Bob Jesberger, the owner of Mid Island Collision in Rockville Center, New York to help give away 3,500 turkeys, canned goods, and warm clothes to the neediest families of the Long Island community.

Panthers Donate Pink Proceeds
Now that Breast Cancer Awareness Month has drawn to a close, the Adelphi Panthers can reflect on all they've accomplished in October with the Think Pink program.
Members of the 22 intercollegiate teams donated raffle baskets and pink items, including t-shirts, hats, and bracelets. They participated in Think Pink games, where fans were encouraged to wear pink, and cancer survivors were recognized at halftime ceremonies. On Lee Denim Day, Friday, October 2, 2009, Panthers accepted $5 donations from Adelphi employees who wore denim to work. The Adelphi softball team led a Bat for a Cause Batting Clinic on Sunday, October 18, 2009 on the Janet L. Ficke field. The campus also enjoyed a Bloomingdale's shopping day on Thursday, October 29, 2009. For a $10 donation, participants received tickets worth 10–15 percent off most items in the store.
All proceeds from the month go to the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Awareness Hotline & Support Program. In 2008, the Panthers donated more than $6,000 to the hotline.

Athletes Aid Special Needs Community
The merits of the Panthers basketball players extend beyond the court; both men's and women's team have been performing acts of altruism benefiting children with developmental disabilities.
Members of the women's basketball team volunteered at the 10th Annual Long Island Walk Now for Autism Speaks on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Jones Beach State Park. The women painted faces and applied temporary tattoos for children participating in the walk.
On Friday, October 9, 2009, Adelphi's men's basketball team also contributed to the special needs community by hosting a clinic in the Center for Recreation and Sport for the Special Needs Unit of the Nassau Police Activity League. For two hours, the Panthers led drills and scrimmages geared toward helping the 30 PAL participants offer sports and recreation programs to disabled children.

To encourage school spirit and student support of athletic teams, Adelphi Athletics has developed the Panther Pride program. Students receive AU memorabilia for attending games and events. Panther Pride members will also earn special opportunities such as first chances at all in-game promotional competitions, a five percent discount on all Adelphi gear, and other perks. Fans Go Wild for an Earlier Midnight Madness
Midnight Madness has traditionally taken place at midnight on the 15 th of October, the eve of first official day of basketball practice. This year, Adelphi postponed the event until the Friday night, October 16, 2009 and started the festivities earlier to accommodate more faculty, staff, commuters, and fans. The strategy was a success, with more than 700 fans packing the Center for Recreation and Sports to kick off the start of the 2009–2010 men’s and women's basketball season. Proceeds from ticket sales, which came to approximately $2,000, will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the official charity of NCAA Division II.

Panthers Kick Off Fall Season with Style
Approximately 100 guests nibbled hors d'oeuvres at the Adelphi University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics' Semi-Annual Fall Kick-Off on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Chateau Briand in Carle Place, New York. Guests included St. John's University Basketball Coach Lou Carnesecca and WNBA President Donna Orender. Adelphi University Head Coach Dom Scala, the athletic department's development director, coordinated and emceed the evening, which concluded with the raffling off of a signed NY Yankees Derek Jeter jersey.

Adelphi Takes Pride in New Program
Adelphi University Athletics has created a new Panther Pride Program for the 2009–2010 season, aimed at increasing student attendance at home athletic contests. Under the program, students receive free items for attending games. Other incentives include special fan seating, first chances at in-game promotional competitions, and other unique opportunities.

Graduate Student Earns First NE-10 Diversity Grant
Adelphi University graduate student Danielle Parks '09 is the first recipient of the Northeast-10 (NE-10) Institutional Minority Internship, a 10-month program that the NE-10 expects will support diversity among its member campuses. As part of the internship, Ms. Parks will assist with Adelphi athletic department marketing and promotion and the Panther Pride Rewards program. She will also receive a stipend to attend the NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar in January 2010.

Panthers Think Pink for Third Consecutive Year
Adelphi Athletics kicked off its Third Annual Jennifer Montgomery Breast Cancer Awareness event at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2009, as part of its Think Pink program. Throughout the month of October, each fall sports team will host Think Pink games, don Think Pink shirts for warm-ups, and provide "pink" gifts for their opposing teams. New Ticket Prices Take Effect This Fall
Adelphi Athletics has instituted new ticket prices for 2009–2010. Alumni ticket prices will raise modestly to $3, although Panther Club members will be eligible for free tickets. The change in price will apply to all regular season home games and will take effect at the first home game of the season on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 1:00 p.m., as women's soccer plays host to Philadelphia. Panthers Roar with Pride
On May 17, 2009, Adelphi’s women's lacrosse team claimed its third national title, beating out Lock Haven University at the NCAA Division II championships with an impressive 16-4 victory. The game capped the team’s immaculate 18-0 season record.

Baseball Finishes Strong Despite Defeat
The Panthers made it to the NCAA tournament in May, where they battled it out at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, New Hampshire, against Dowling College. After a long game, Adelphi came out second despite team's impressive effort and strong pitching by Keith Couch '11. The team finished the season as East Coast Conference regular and tournament champions.

Celebrating Strong Seasons and Admirable Athletes
Adelphi Athletics celebrated its successes in May with the annual End of the Year Banquet. The event honored outstanding athletes and named the most valuable players from each team. Spotless Season for Lady Panthers' Lacrosse
Adelphi’s women’s lacrosse was awarded top seed in the North region after finishing the season with a perfect 16-0 record. The team will move on to compete in the 2009 NCAA Division II Women’s Lacrosse Championship, their fifth trip to the NCAA Final Four in six years, with two of those trips producing national titles. The championship is hosted by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and the City of Salem, and will be held from May 16 to May 17, 2009, at the Donald J. Golf and Tennis Going Strong
Adelphi’s golf and tennis teams are both headed to the 2009 NCAA Division II Men’s Championships, proudly representing the University and continuing strong seasons that included the men's golf team winning 10 tournaments. This is the second year in a row that men's tennis has gone to the NCAA’s, for which the finals will be held in Altamonte Springs, Florida, hosted by the Central Florida Sports Commission and Rollins College. The golf team will compete in the East Regional tournament which will take place at the Glade Springs Resort Golf Club, Beckley, West Virginia, and is hosted by Concord University and the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The event will take place at the Ruth S. Harley University Center on the Garden City campus, and will include alumni who have made significant contributions to the athletics program at Adelphi. Winter Sports Wrap-Up
This past March, the Adelphi track and field team proudly sent three athletes to the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship in Houston, Texas. Adelphi ended the event with three top-15 finishes. Athletes in competition were Kevin Durant '09, Mychael Fabio '12, and Danielle Lyons '11. Adelphi also began the spring 2009 outdoor track and field season in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, at the Coastal Carolina Shamrock Invitational. Corey McKee '12 also had a memorable season, making his debut at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championship where he placed 16 th in the 200-yard Fly, earning an All-American Honorable Mention.

Panther Fans Unite for a Worthy Cause
At its women's basketball game on Saturday, February 21, 2009, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics had originally planned to present a check for $4,000 to the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program, but after New York State announced budget cuts that would cut $300,000 in funding for the program, the Panthers decided to continue their fundraising efforts. They sponsored a weeklong campaign culminating with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone game, during which 400 fans, including many breast cancer survivors, signed a petition that is being sent to Albany in protest of the budget cuts. Willie Randolph Helps AU Kick Off Spring Season
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics' Spring Kick-off Event was a star-studded evening, featuring Willie Randolph, who played second base for the New York Yankees for 13 seasons, former Major League Soccer standout Chris Armas '94, and former Adelphi pitcher Bobby Lanigan '09, who was drafted last June by the Minnesota Twins. Panthers Garner Praise from Lacrosse Magazine
Adelphi University's women's lacrosse team, after reeling off 16 straight wins in 2008, was ranked third in Lacrosse Magazine's preseason rankings for NCAA Division II women's lacrosse. Individual team members were also recognized with awards for their prowess on the field. In addition, Adelphi men's Lacrosse was selected fourth in the East Coast Conference, after finishing with a record of 7-5 overall in 2008 and 3-3 in conference play for the spring 2008 season.

Panthers Run Sneakers into the Ground
As part of the Imagine Change, Act Now (ICAN) project on campus, members of Adelphi University's men's lacrosse and cross-country/track teams donated sneakers to the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program, which turns them into NIKE Grind, a base material used in playgrounds, basketball courts, synthetic turf, and running tracks. Adelphi Teams with Salvation Army
During the past two years, Adelphi has donated roughly 15-20 boxes of toiletry items to the Salvation Army. This year, the Adelphi University Athletic Department, in conjunction with its CHAMPS/Lifeskills program, will be accepting donated personal hygiene and toiletry items at all home basketball games through February 28, 2009. Last Call for Hall of Fame Nominations
The deadline for the 37 th Annual Athletic Hall of Fame nomination submissions is Wednesday, December 31, 2008. The Hall of Fame dinner, which will take place on Thursday, April 16, 2009, will honor as many as eight deserving athletic alumni, coaches, friends, and supporters of Adelphi athletics, in addition special recognition awards. Panthers Went Wild at Midnight Madness

Ribbon-cutting Ceremony Marks New Era in Adelphi Athletics
On Saturday, October 4, 2008, the atrium of the new Center for Recreation and Sports was packed with Adelphi officials, athletics students, parents, and friends of the University for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the facilities. Adelphi's Vice President for Administration and Student Services, Angelo B. Proto, recalled President Robert A. Tim McAleer joins Adelphi as the head golf coach, and will guide a program that closed out the 2008 season ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II Northeast Region. Gloria M. O'Connor, Adelphi's new head field hockey coach, will guide the Panthers in their return to the NCAA Division II conference.

Adelphi Panthers Make the Honor Roll
The 2007-2008 East Coast Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, that is. More than 100 Adelphi student-athletes were listed among 599 student-athletes overall for receiving a grade-point average of 3.2 or above while participating in Division II sports.
