Panthers Donate Pink Proceeds
Now that Breast Cancer Awareness Month has drawn to a close, the Adelphi Panthers can reflect on all they've accomplished in October with the Think Pink program.
Members of the 22 intercollegiate teams donated raffle baskets and pink items, including t-shirts, hats, and bracelets. They participated in Think Pink games, where fans were encouraged to wear pink, and cancer survivors were recognized at halftime ceremonies. On Lee Denim Day, Friday, October 2, 2009, Panthers accepted $5 donations from Adelphi employees who wore denim to work. The Adelphi softball team led a Bat for a Cause Batting Clinic on Sunday, October 18, 2009 on the Janet L. Ficke field. The campus also enjoyed a Bloomingdale's shopping day on Thursday, October 29, 2009. For a $10 donation, participants received tickets worth 10–15 percent off most items in the store.
All proceeds from the month go to the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Awareness Hotline & Support Program. In 2008, the Panthers donated more than $6,000 to the hotline.

Athletes Aid Special Needs Community
The merits of the Panthers basketball players extend beyond the court; both men's and women's team have been performing acts of altruism benefiting children with developmental disabilities.
Members of the women's basketball team volunteered at the 10th Annual Long Island Walk Now for Autism Speaks on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Jones Beach State Park. The women painted faces and applied temporary tattoos for children participating in the walk.
On Friday, October 9, 2009, Adelphi's men's basketball team also contributed to the special needs community by hosting a clinic in the Center for Recreation and Sport for the Special Needs Unit of the Nassau Police Activity League. For two hours, the Panthers led drills and scrimmages geared toward helping the 30 PAL participants offer sports and recreation programs to disabled children.

Fans Go Wild for an Earlier Midnight Madness
Midnight Madness has traditionally taken place at midnight on the 15 th of October, the eve of first official day of basketball practice. This year, Adelphi postponed the event until the Friday night, October 16, 2009 and started the festivities earlier to accommodate more faculty, staff, commuters, and fans. The strategy was a success, with more than 700 fans packing the Center for Recreation and Sports to kick off the start of the 2009–2010 men’s and women's basketball season. Proceeds from ticket sales, which came to approximately $2,000, will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the official charity of NCAA Division II.
