Adelphi Named a Best Buy by the Fiske Guide to Colleges
The 2007 Fiske Guide to Colleges again recognized Adelphi as one of the "best and most interesting" colleges in the U.S. This year, Adelphi had the added distinction of being named a "Best Buy" in higher education--one of only 26 private colleges nationwide to make the list.

Vital Signs Report Reveals Long Island Social Health Disparities On June 15, Adelphi released the first findings from Vital Signs, its campus-community project to assess Long Island's social health. Conceived by President Robert A. Scott, the project analyzed data in 25 social health categories and revealed that despite the region's overall wealth, deep disparities persist and, in some cases, are growing.

President Scott Selected for International Conference President Scott was selected to participate in the Council of Europe's Forum on Higher Education and Democratic Culture held in Strasbourg, France. He joined a select group of 300 international experts and policy makers.

JPMorgan Chase Foundation Gives $75,000 for AU Nonprofit Leadership Center Adelphi received a generous $75,000 donation from the JPMorgan Chase Foundation to help launch The Long Island Center for Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership. The center will be a driving force for maintaining the viability and resilience of the region's nonprofit sector.

Adelphi Adds Ph.D. in Nursing
As of fall 2006, Adelphi will offer the only Ph.D. in nursing on Long Island. The new 54-credit program will focus on nursing science and research.

Marguerite Izzo M.S. '84 Named New York Teacher of the Year
Marguerite Izzo M.S. '84 has been named New York State Teacher of the Year by New York State United Teachers (NYSUT). The 29-year teaching veteran, who is an adjunct faculty member in the Adelphi University Ruth S. Ammon School of Education and teaches fifth grade in Malverne, NY, is in the running for the National Teacher of the Year award.

Panthers Signed to the Pros
Baseball player Stephen Malvagna has signed a minor league contract as a free agent with the New York Mets. Lacrosse player Wes Green '06 has been drafted by the Long Island Lizards. Former soccer player Dina Cali '05 joined the Lady Riders semi-professional team.

Women's Lacrosse Coach Honored
Women's lacrosse coach Jill Lessne-Solomon won National Coach of the Year honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. She most recently guided the women's lacrosse team to its second NCAA Division II championship in three years.

NYCAC Now East Coast Conference
Effective July 1, Adelphi's athletic conference, the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC), has been renamed the East Coast Conference (ECC). New logos and trademarks have been unveiled.

Two Named ECC Scholar-Athletes
Two Adelphi athletes earned scholar-athlete accolades from the East Coast Conference. Dely Francisco '08 was named Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Brian Rath '06 won the Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.

Save the Date for 18th Annual Golf Classic, September 25, 2006 Adelphi will honor Michael J. Driscoll M.B.A. '89, senior managing director of Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc., at its 18th Annual Golf Classic on Monday, September 25, 2006 at the Cherry Valley Club in Garden City. Proceeds benefit student athletic scholarships.
