Storied Lives: Adelphi Hosts StoryCorps Project
From Monday, October 5, 2009 to Thursday, October 8, 2009, Adelphi hosted the StoryCorps project to allow alumni, students, faculty, administrators, and community members to share and record for the Library of Congress their life stories. The project coincided with the run of Adelphi’s production of Elmer Rice’s Street Scene, which depicts Depression-era New York through the experiences of the city’s immigrant inhabitants.
In his StoryCorps interview with Rebecca Benison '11, longtime Professor of Sociology Salvatore Primeggia '67 shared vignettes of growing up in an Italian immigrant family and, as a young night class teacher, using his wit to wake up weary students.

In a Rush? Try Speed Networking
Looking to maximize your contacts in the minimum amount of time and meet experts who can guide you in your field? Try speed networking. This fall, Adelphi offers two events to students and alumni—one for those interested in communications and a second one for those interested in social work. Both evenings will feature a line-up of alumni who are highly accomplished in their fields who, in short sessions, will advise attendees on breaking into and moving up within their professions.
The first Speed Networking event for communications professionals will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Warwick Hotel in Manhattan. The event is part of the Office of Alumni Relations' Insights and Connections Series and was planned in conjunction with University Advancement, the Center for Career Development, the School of Business, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Center for Student Involvement.
If you're in social work, join the C.O.A.C.H.: School of Social Work Speed Networking event on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Center for Recreation and Sport's Campbell Lounge.

Athletes Aid Special Needs Community
The merits of the Panthers basketball players extend beyond the court; both men's and women's team have been performing acts of altruism benefiting children with developmental disabilities.
Members of the women's basketball team volunteered at the 10th Annual Long Island Walk Now for Autism Speaks on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Jones Beach State Park. The women painted faces and applied temporary tattoos for children participating in the walk.
On Friday, October 9, 2009, Adelphi's men's basketball team also contributed to the special needs community by hosting a clinic in the Center for Recreation and Sport for the Special Needs Unit of the Nassau Police Activity League. For two hours, the Panthers led drills and scrimmages geared toward helping the 30 PAL participants offer sports and recreation programs to disabled children.
