Boost Your Career and Your Health
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 7, 2010. That's when members of the Adelphi community will be able to participate in a Job and Internship Expo and a Health and Wellness Fair on the Garden City campus.

The Job and Internship Expo, run by the Center for Career Development, will take place in the Ruth S. Harley University Center from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Open to students and alumni, it is Adelphi's largest recruiting event of the year.

Before the Expo, learn more about participating employers, including those in the healthcare, business, education, social service, and government sectors; polish your interview skills; and revamp your résumé at the Center for Career Development in Post Hall.

Students, alumni, faculty, and staff are invited to attend the free Health Fair with more than 20 exhibitors, a farmer's market, and cooking competition. Get a massage, learn yoga, be screened for blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels, attend programs on wellness, Zumba and strength training, smoking cessation, and get tips on managing workplace stress. Visit the Planned Parenthood, Mobile Mammography, and Hearing Screening vans. Free giveaways and the chance to win a Kindle DX!

The program, administered by the Center for Career Development and the Long Island Center for Nonprofit Leadership, requires students to successfully complete a one-credit nonprofit internship seminar during the spring 2010 term and be available to work at a selected nonprofit for a minimum of 30 hours per week for 10 weeks from June to August 2010. Students will also be asked to blog about their internship experiences on the Adelphi Web site and Facebook page.

Eligible students are current Adelphi sophomores and juniors with at least 45 credits and a minimum 3.0 grade point average. They should also have a record of volunteer service, community service, or previous internship experience and a recommendation from at least one Adelphi professor.

The deadline for applications, which students can download from their PantherZone account, is Monday, March 1, 2010. For more information, email Jonathan Ivanoff at the Center for Career Development or call (516) 877-3130.
