Adelphi Triangle Factory Fire Remembrance Project

Teaching the Triangle Fire: 3rd Annual Educaiton & Labor Collaborative Forum

Saturday, July 17 & Sunday, July 18, 2010
10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Adelphi University Manhattan Center
75 Varick Street, Second Floor
New York, NY 10013

The Triangle Factory fire was the largest workplace disaster in the US until the 9/11 tragedy.  The outrage over the senseless deaths of the young workers sparked social protests that lead to stronger labor legislation, humane workplace regulations, and ultimately New Deal reform. As the 100-year anniversary of the tragedy approaches, efforts to commemorate the fire and what that moment in history represents for all of us are being undertaken across the nation.

Participants of the forum will:
  • Learn from expert scholars in the field and master teachers.
  • Engage in hands-on workshops focused on primary resources, family histories, and arts-based pedagogies.
  • Participate in walking history tours of Lower Manhattan.
  • Engage in workshops on leadership and organizing for change.
  • Earn professional development credits
