ICAN: Imagine Change, Act Now!
The Adelphi Collaboration Project 2008: For Social Justice
ICAN is a forum for a wide-ranging series of events, actions and activities highlighting contemporary and historical work for social change related to basic human rights. The project involves multiple campus constituencies in a collaborative and interdisciplinary effort to educate, inspire, empower and engage our Adelphi community through learning about, as well as taking part in, local and global actions to create the world we dream about. A diverse series of activities highlighting women's leadership in working for global peace and social justice historically and currently; the project involves multiple campus constituencies in a collaborative and interdisciplinary effort that educates about gender, peace and justice, and brings to light work that often remains invisible.
The purpose of this project is:
- To engage the community (students, faculty, staff, administrators and friends of Adelphi) in an educational and reflective series of activities that bring to light the particular role that women historically and globally have played in struggles for peace and justice;
- To raise awareness about ways that structures, institutions and constructs related to race, class, gender, ability, age and sexuality frame and marginalize the role that various constituencies have played in these struggles;
- To reflect inclusive, representative and diverse university constituencies through the process and activities; and
- To connect talk with action so that the project involves dialogue and activities that apply ideas in real settings within the broader community.
As the project concludes, we would like your feedback! Please click here to access the evaluation form. We greatly appreciate your input.
