Oil Paintings on Copper by Elsa Bekkala
UC Art Gallery
If artists are the conscience of their time, women are often the litmus for issues that arise in society. Bekkala's painting has evolved as a way to reveal issues, originating from the vantage point of an upbringing on a farm in the Copper Country of Northern Michigan with a background of Sami-Finnish descent, and culminating with nearly twenty years spent living and working in New York City. |
