About Lou Piniella

Piniella took the field as a member of the Baltimore Orioles (1964), Cleveland Indians (1968), Kansas City Royals (1969-73) and the New York Yankees (1974-84) during his 20 year playing career. An All-Star in 1972, Piniella left the diamond as a two-time World Champion, winning both titles with the Yankees in 1977 and 1978 and was a career .291 hitter and was the American League Rookie of The Year in 1969.

Following his career on the field, Piniella found a home on the bench, coaching five different Major League Baseball teams, New York Yankees (1986-88), Cincinnati Reds (1990-92), Seattle Mariners (1993-2002), Tampa Bay Rays (2003-2005), Chicago Cubs (2007-2010). Piniella was twice named American League Manager of The Year (1995, 2001) and earned the same honor in th National League in 2008. He also earned his third career World Championship in 1990 as the manager of the Reds.
