Our remaining board positions of VP/Treasurer and Secretary or co-Secretaries are open and we encourage any parent or guardian to consider joining our board. Nominations for ALL board positions, including President and Vice President, are strongly encouraged and are accepted up until and including at the Annual Meeting.

Elections are held during Spirit Weekend at the Parents Association annual meeting. Light refreshments will be served. See the board officer  responsibilities and nomination form.

Barbara McElroy hopes to serve as President for the upcoming year, if elected in October. Barbara began her service on the AUPA board in the Fall of 2014 as a Member at Large and served on a Sub-Committee to re-draft the AUPA Constitution and draft By-Laws. In the Fall of 2015, she became a Vice President, serving in that capacity again this past academic year. Barbara has been a featured speaker at previous Parent Orientations. She also greets parents and families at Open Houses, Accepted Student Days, Human Ribbon for Breast Cancer, and other events. Barbara served on President Riordan’s Strategic Planning Commission. She is a member of the Adelphi Women’s Giving Circle and the Adelphi Arts Development Board. Barbara has two students here at Adelphi—a senior and a sophomore.

Geri Faiella hopes to serve as Vice President for the upcoming year. Geri, a registered nurse is an Adelphi Alum, having received her BS in Nursing. She is presently the Director of Patient Services for the Northwell Home Care Network. Her daughter is a sophomore in Adelphi’s biology department. Perhaps you met Geri at Parent Meet and Greets, Move-in Day, Open Houses, Accepted Student Days, Relay for Life, or at other activities on campus. Geri looks forward to serving as Vice President of the AUPA, if elected in October. Geri has been inspired by the level of commitment and sense of community the AUPA Board has had during her year of service and looks forward to assisting in the achievement of the goals of the AUPA over the next academic year.

We will also have a brief discussion of this year’s Adelphi Community Reads book, No Impact Man by Colin Beavan. Della Hudson, Associate Dean and member of the Adelphi Community Reads committee will lead the discussion of one family’s attention to its environmental impact. Members of the Campus Sustainability Committee, Robert Shipley, Chair and Assistant Vice President for Facilities Management, and Kathleen Watchorn, committee member and Coordinator for Projects and Programs, will also discuss the University’s sustainability initiatives, which encourage students to become environmental stewards—both at home and on campus.

Pre-registration is required for this event.
