Charles H. Levermore: Peace Activist

In accord with the Changing Nature of War and Peace initiative, Adelphi University Archives and Special Collections presents “Charles H. Levermore: Peace Activist.”

Located on the first floor of Swirbul Library, the exhibition highlights Adelphi’s first president, Charles H. Levermore, and his committed and ardent advocacy of world peace.

The exhibition includes signed letters from Presidents Woodrow Wilson and William H. Taft, a typescript of minutes from a 1916 Chicago meeting of the World’s Court League, and a grouping of material related to the $100,000 American Peace Prize, sponsored by the millionaire publisher of The Ladies Home Journal, Edward Bok, which Levermore won in 1923.

Sponsored by the Collaboration Project and Adelphi’s Archives and Special Collections. Part of the Changing Nature of War and Peace initiative.
