Coach Irwin Life Celebration

Join alumni swimmers, coaches and friends as we celebrate the life of former Adelphi Hall of Fame Swim Coach, Bill Irwin.

Bill Irwin coached men’s and women’s swimming at Adelphi from 1966-1978. Over the course of his twelve years at the helm of the program, Coach Irwin mentored three NCAA All-Americans: Hall of Fame inductees Len Galluzzi, Rick Guy and Tom Liotti, two of whom (Galluzzi and Liotti) qualified for the 1968 Olympic Trials. Bill was also instrumental in the formation of a women’ swim team, which had its first national qualifier for the AIAW Intercollegiate National Championships in 1970, 2006 Hall of Fame inductee, Sue Tendy. Outside of the confines of Adelphi Coach Irwin was a prominent figure in the world of swimming, mentoring and coaching many of Long Islands finest swimmers in the 1960’s-70’s.

Share stories and fond memories of a man who not only transformed the Adelphi swim program but also touched the lives of each and every person he coached, mentored and befriended.

In addition to sharing your stories, if you have any photos, notes or memorabilia of Bill, please share it with the Office of Alumni Relations by contacting before Friday, September 13, 2018. We would like to display these items at the celebration.

Online Registration is now closed. Walk-In’s Welcome!

Alumni, please visit the Adelphi Spirit Weekend Check-In and Hospitality Center located in the Ruth S. Harley University Center lobby.
