Lean Sigma Academy for Educators

Adelphi University’s Office of University Admissions in collaboration with the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business invite school counselors, principals and superintendents to participate in this customized interactive professional development event.

Adelphi University’s Lean Sigma Academy

Lean sigma is an evolving philosophy aimed at the elimination of waste and addition of value. It is a continuing process of change involving everyone within the organization. Fundamentally, lean is about leveraging employee knowledge and experience to identify and eliminate waste from our processes so we can spend more time, effort, resources on the things that matter to our students, employees and other stakeholders, and less on the things that don’t.

To become a Lean organization, the philosophy must be embraced by organizational leaders and employees at all levels. The first steps in the journey to become a lean organization is education. As this progresses across the organization, the Lean philosophy will begin to change the culture.

Key Takeaways

You’ll leave this presentation with a strong understanding of lean philosophy and how to introduce it to your work environment. Consider tools and exercises to bring back to your own workplace to put the philosophy into practice such as…

  • How to engage colleagues and create an office/school wide culture of improvement.
  • How to establish clear roles and responsibilities to cut down on processing time and eliminate disconnects in workflows
  • How to incorporate lessons learned in other industries in daily education-specific bottlenecks
  • How to implement bottom-up management, giving the front-line employees, who are closest to every-day challenges, the support they need to solve problems quickly.
