Certificate Series on LGBTQ Relevancy: Letters of Support for TGNCNB People

with Aiden Jay Kaplan, LMSW

This is part three of a four-part post-graduate certificate series. Only participants who complete all four will be eligible for the post-graduate certificate.

This workshop explores the pros and cons of letter writing as an advocacy tool to assist LGBTQ clients in reaching their transition goals. The workshop will explore gatekeeping and ways to give clients back power in a system that often takes away their own decision making regarding their bodies.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Increased knowledge around advocacy within your agency/department for LGBTQ clients/students.
  • Increased knowledge around advocacy for policy change on both micro and macro levels
  • Understand social work as a political profession and the ways in which we can recognize gaps in law and policy (County, State, and Federal) and advocate for change.
