Citation analysis measures a scholar’s research performance and it is an indicator of how one scholar’s publications influence the research and scholarly activities of others. Citation statistics play important roles in faculty tenure, promotion, and hiring decisions in many academic institutions. Moreover, citation data are considered useful by many grant funding agencies.  As the sources of obtaining citations data and their various uses are proliferating, scholars in various disciplines are struggling to decide which tools are best to use in order to fit certain needs. The tools, methods and pitfalls of citation analysis have become the topics of research and publications in many disciplines.
