Panther Day of Service

The Center for Student Involvement is offering the Adelphi community the chance to participate in our fall Panther Day of Service. The goal of the service event is to give back to the communities that surround Adelphi University.

Interact with students, staff, and faculty while visiting various locations completing projects, doing arts and crafts with the elderly, etc. Check-in will be in the University Center Lobby 30 minutes before the start time of your service project. Registration is first-come, first served.

Faculty, staff and students are invited to participate!

Please bring one canned good to check-in and/or a quarter that will be donated to Loving Orphans Global Project Rote.

Community service options

Catholic Charities Senior Center—11:00 a.m. 

Volunteers will play Bingo and interact with residents at the center. Volunteers will play bingo and interact with residents at the Catholic Charities Senior Community Service Center in Franklin Square.

Island Harvest—11:00 a.m. 

Island Harvest is the largest hunger relief organization on Long Island. Volunteers will solicit for canned food for Island Harvest Food bank.

Personal transportation required.

Relay for Life—11:00 a.m. 

Relay for Life events are unique, life-changing cancer fundraising events that help communities across the globe fight back against cancer. Volunteers will solicit for Relay raffles and monetary donations for Adelphi’s Relay for Life event, which is held in the spring.

Personal transportation required.

Spooky Fest Setup—10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. 

The Center for Science Teaching and Learning celebrates Halloween with Spooky Fest. This family friendly event will take place for seven days in October in Rockville Centre. Volunteers will help set up for Spooky Fest.

Glory House Recovery—11:00 a.m. 

Glory House Recovery Inc. is a homeless housing facility in Hempstead dedicated to helping those less fortunate among us. Volunteers will beautify the surrounding area for the residents. They will be gardening outside the house, painting and trimming bushes.

HorseAbility—2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

The mission of HorseAbility is to improve the lives of individuals with special needs through facilitated interactions with horses at their Old Westbury facility. Volunteers will help manage the stables and clean the surrounding area. Some will help groom the horses as well.

A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility—2:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

Recognized nationally as a model for skilled nursing facilities, the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility in Uniondale offers innovative care in an environment that treats the “whole” person. The skilled and caring medical staff responds to the physical, social and emotional needs of each resident. Volunteers will engage with the residents and play bowling with them as well as other recreational activities.

Garden Care Center—2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. 

The Garden Care Center in Franklin Square offers a wide variety of healthcare programs in unique environment combining state-of-the-art caring and warm, homelike hospitality. Volunteers will play word games, board games and crosswords with the residents.

Adelphi Building Blocks—10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. 

Volunteer at the Early Learning Center. Maximum of 6 people per time block.

Registration is full for both sessions.
