Racism, Mass Incarceration and Solitary Confinement

Mr. Five Mualimm-ak worked with Mayor De Blasio to close Rikers Island solitary confinement for kids.

Room change: This event will be in University Center 211/212

Mr. Five Mualimm-ak will discuss the extent to which huge numbers of people of color end up in prison and even in solitary confinement for, often, minor infractions or false convictions as a result of institutional prejudice and blatant racism.

Mr. Mualimm-ak is Director of the organization, Incarcerated Nation Corp, a collective of previously incarcerated professionals who work to support incarcerated and previously incarcerated people and their families.

Mr. Mualimm-ak is an inspiring speaker and is known to incite students to action with his passion around these issues. “Behind every great activist leader are students,” says Mr. Mualimm-ak, “and it is the students who make history.”racial-justice-matters-logo
