The Road to Resiliency

Part of the Health Services Center’s Work-Life Wellness Certificate for all undergraduate and graduate students.

Everyone is bound to experience stressful situations or circumstances. Learn to bounce back from these problems and how to build resilience and emotional fortitude.

Josh Altman, Ph.D., has worked in the mental health field for over 10 years. He has served as a therapist to hundreds of teens, young adults, and their families. His roles have also included adjunct professor, clinical supervisor to other therapists, and consultant to tech companies, entrepreneurs, and athletes. In addition to counseling, Dr. Altman piloted a customized program at Adelphi University that teaches students how to develop resilience and emotional fortitude. He has lectured at preparatory schools, colleges and law schools throughout the New York metropolitan area.

Dr. Altman trained and received his Master’s degree at New York University Silver School of Social Work. He completed internships at Phoenix House’s IMPACT Outpatient Program in New York City where he counseled teens and their families as they sought to acquire the valuable skills necessary to sustain healthy recovery from alcohol and substance misuse. Dr. Altman’s advanced internship was at the Saint Vincent Hospital Child and Adolescent Outpatient Clinic, New York, NY. 

Dr. Altman received his doctorate at the Smith College School for Social Work in Northampton, Massachusetts where he also served as a lecturer and adjunct instructor. He has worked at outpatient mental health centers and colleges where he served as a therapist and supervisor. Today he serves as the associate director of the Adelphi University college counseling center. Dr. Altman also maintains a private practice with offices located in Garden City, Long Island N.Y. and Riverdale, Bronx N.Y.


About the Work-Life Wellness Certificate Program

The Work-Life Wellness Certificate Program is an initiative hosted by Health Services Center.

Its goal is to assist Adelphi undergraduate and graduate students in developing skills to bring with them for life after college. This program will enable students to evaluate potential areas of need through a wellness survey, and will address 6 different topic areas.
