Join us for the third annual Legends Dinner where we honor the professional and personal successes of our Adelphi Alumni and community members. This year’s honorees include Adelphi’s 2019 10 under 10 award recipients.

The evening’s emcee will be Kerry Prep ’79, Creator of Preppygrams Singing Telegrams.

Salvatore Primeggia ’64, MA ’66 PhD
Professor of Sociology at Adelphi University

Salvatore Primeggia ’64, MA ’66 PhD, a Professor of Sociology at Adelphi University, where he teaches courses including The Italian-American Experience and Media Images of Italian-Americans. Professor Primeggia has co-authored several articles with various themes and is a highly respected speaker on Italian-American topics and social themes.

Presented to alumni for remarkable achievements in professional life or for distinguished accomplishments through service to his or her community, state or country, over the course of a decade or more. Curtiss Jacobs ’01 is the co-founder and Managing Partner of Uptown Advisory Group LLC. He is also the President of 100 Black Men of Long Island, serves as a National Board Director for One Hundred Black Men of America, and is the Past Board Chairman of the WorldofMoney.org, a not for profit providing financial education programming to youth in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area.

Dr. Elvin T. Ramos ’06, MA ’07 is the founder, president and chief executive officer of Global Tassels. Global Tassels embodies the implementation of his innovative ideas for eliminating poverty in local communities around the world. Dr. Ramos currently serves as Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs and a member of the teaching faculty in the Humanities, at the University of the District of Columbia Community College.

Honorable Cynthia M. Rufe  ’70
United States District Judge at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania

Honorable Cynthia M. (Favata) Rufe ‘70 has been a Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania since 2002. Her appointment by President George W. Bush to an Article III Judgeship was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate. Judge Rufe previously was elected to the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas in 1993 where she presided over all divisions of the trial court. Following law school, Rufe served as a Public Defender in Bucks County. She left government service to establish her own law firm, gaining prominence in the legal community and also serving as Solicitor for the Bucks County Children and Youth Social Services Agency. Judge Rufe is currently the President of the Federal Judges Association.

Janet L. Ficke ’59
Former Softball Coach, Associate Athletic Director and Professor at Adelphi University

Janet L. Ficke ’59 was the head softball coach at Adelphi from the program’s inception in 1972 until 1985. In 17 years at the helm, she amassed a 362-160-3 record, made five NCAA Division I Tournament appearances and three college World Series appearances. Ficke also played basketball and softball while attending Adelphi University from 1955-1959. Ficke was also a long time physical education professor at Adelphi.  In 2003, Adelphi University dedicated the softball field to her, renaming it Janet L. Ficke Field.  That same year, the department established the Janet L. Ficke Golf Classic, which raises money for women’s athletics at Adelphi.

Stephen M. Wirth ’70
Administrative Director of Out-Patient Rehab Services and Sports Medicine at NYU Winthrop Hospital

Stephen M. Wirth ’70 founded New York Sports & Physical Therapy Institute in 1998 and continues to be the Director. For the past 30 plus years, Stephen has specialized in sports medicine and orthopedic rehabilitation and has had the opportunity to work with many professional organizations. He was the Physical Therapist for the New York Islanders from 1979-1996, acted as a consultant for the New York Mets, and had the pleasure to train professional boxers, including Alex Stewart, David Sears and Jerry Cooney. Wirth was a member of the men’s soccer team during his time at Adelphi and continues to remain active in Adelphi athletics by serving as the president of the Panther Club for nearly 15 years, and co-chair of the University’s annual Golf Classic for over 20 years.

Emcee:

Kerry Prep ’79, Creator of Preppygrams Singing Telegrams

Actor, singer, director, and musical composer, Kerry Prep ’79 is the founder of Preppygrams, a singing telegram company specializing in custom-written songs, which has served the New York Metro area since 1982. He received his BFA in Theatre from Adelphi University, where he is currently an adjunct professor in Voice Production. He also is an adjunct professor teaching Musical Theatre at Hofstra and Long Island University. Kerry was recently commissioned to devise The Harmony Project, a musical based on addressing the issues of high school bullying.
