Transitioning to Tele-Mental Health: What you Should Know

This workshop reviews the most important factors when transitioning clinical practice online; as well as the continued need for assessment and adjustment throughout the experience.

As COVID-19 has caused a quick shift into nationwide telehealth implementation, clinical service providers are finding themselves affected by the learning curve while trying to provide seamless care to their clients. Comfort level with technology, client/clinician fit with the treatment delivery model, and feeling competent in client engagement from a distance are all valid on-going concerns.

Learning Objectives:

  • Clinicians will gain knowledge of ethical standards, best practices, client/clinician considerations in care, as well as temporary federal and state legal exceptions
  • Clinicians will learn effective tools to engage clients from a distance while increasing their comfort with technology
  • Clinicians will ensure their assessment, planning, and treatment skills are utilized through responsive approaches and Emergency Management Planning

New York State Office of the Professions (NYSED) regulations require that participants must be present for the entire approved educational activity in order to receive a certificate for continuing education hours. There is no accommodation in the State regulations for late arrival, late return from lunch or breaks, or early departure. According to NYSED, in order to award social work CEs; “When you offer a multi-day or multi-part course/educational activity, the learner must complete all parts in order to earn the certificate for contact hours, in the same way that a student must complete a semester-long course to receive college credit. You may not award partial credit for a program, even a one-day program, if the learner does not complete all requirements at that time.”
