Walt Whitman at 200: Bicentennial Birthday

When Lilacs Last in the DooryardCome Celebrate Walt Whitman

The Walt Whitman Birthplace Association welcomes  voices across cultures, generations, locations, and talents!

Student performers offer creative presentations of their poetry, painting, sculpture, dance, music, film, and theatrical works. We hope to encourage the audience to enjoy and contribute their own voices through interactive presentations celebrating Walt’s America, inclusive and diverse, a democratic participation for all individuals! Participating schools include Adelphi University, Long Island High School for the Arts, Paul Gelinas JHS, Old Mill Road School and Walt Whitman High School.

Historic tours of the Birthplace begin at 10:00 am. Tours are $5 per person.

The Adelphi students performances and art for the festival was facilitated by Sidney Marquez Boquiren, Department of Music, Professor Maggie Lally, Department of Theater, Kellyann Monaghan, Art and Art History.
