XFR at Adelphi

Event

The world has been devastated by the news of the fire at Brazil’s National Museum, which has destroyed millions of cultural and scientific artifacts. This devastation has reinvigorated conversation around preserving cultural heritage. In celebration of Archives Month, Adelphi University Libraries welcomes the XFR Collective, an organization dedicated to preserving at-risk audiovisual media – especially unseen, unheard, or marginalized works – in museums and community archives to Garden City to talk about their work. They will screen a selection of rare film and video they’ve preserved and demonstrate ways you can preserve your own home movies and photographs.

XFR Collective is a non-profit organization that partners with artists, activists, individuals, and groups to lower the barriers to preserving at-risk audiovisual media by providing low-cost digitization services and fostering a community of support for archiving and access through education, research, and cultural engagement.

1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. – XFR Collective Presentation
2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. – Screening
3:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m. – Reception and Q&A

This event is free and open to the general public. Refreshments will be provided.
